What it comes down to is this: Hamas leaders exploit the deaths of Gazans to live luxury lifestyles abroad. How? Hamas encourages Gazans to be martyrs or outright kills them, and waits for aid money to come pouring in. Hamas controls the health ministry in Gaza and inflates the death toll to provoke international outrage, so it’s impossible to say how many civilians have actually been killed. Hamas has the blood of its own people on its hands.
Long answer
Hamas has an obvious vested interest in inflating the reported numbers of people killed in Gaza to increase international outrage against Israel. It doesn’t differentiate between civilian casualties and terrorists, which further inflates the death toll. Hamas also never says how many of the people killed in Gaza were actually killed by Hamas or Islamic Jihad rockets—in this war alone, over a thousand rockets misfired, killing countless civilians. Hamas does not include the civilian deaths that it causes directly when it forces civilians not to evacuate battle zones to use them as human shields. Many of the “children” Hamas claims to be part of its statistics are armed 17-18 year old terrorists who were taught from birth to kill Jews. Hamas controls the health ministry in Gaza, so it’s impossible to trust its reports—it just exploits the deaths of Gazans for its own gain. Hamas has the blood of its own people on its hands.
