Short answer

Palestinians are a very recent invention. It’s a name adopted by Arabs who lived in the province of Palestine under the British Mandate. These Arabs are mostly immigrants from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria, who came to the province once the Zionists and the British improved the local economy and provided work.
