Long Answer
The Palestinian flag is a very new invention in modern history…The flag as we know it today, was officially adopted by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1964. However, its origins trace back to the early 20th century. It is based on the Pan-Arab colors—black, white, green, and red—which symbolize Arab unity and liberation. These colors were first combined in the flag of the Arab Revolt (1916–1918) against Ottoman rule during World War I.
The original Arab Revolt flag was not designed by an Arab, nor a Muslim. It was designed by a British diplomat Sir Mark Sykes in collaboration with Arab leaders. It featured horizontal black, green, and white stripes with a red triangle on the hoist. Over time, various movements across the Arab world adopted variations of this design to represent their aspirations for independence and unity.
The Palestinian is not unique at all as It maintains the Pan-Arab colors but rearranges them into three horizontal stripes (black, white, and green from top to bottom) with a red triangle at the hoist. This flag is bascialy the same as Jordan’s just without the 7 point star inside the triangle This design first appeared as a symbol of Palestinian nationalism during the 1920s under the British Mandate.
