Long answer

Life for Jews in Muslim countries was typically not peaceful before the establishment of the State of Israel. Jews have continuously lived in North Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf region for over 2,500 years, but have always faced antisemitic discrimination and violence. The situation for Jews became increasingly dangerous following the adoption of the UN Partition Plan in 1947. Jews in Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Yemen and other Arab countries were targeted in pogroms which continued into the 1950s and 1960s. 850,000 Jews were forced to flee their homes in Arab countries and Iran, and most of them found refuge in Israel. There are clear instances of ethnic cleansing of Jews from Muslim countries.
