Only a few weeks following the October 7th massacre, the UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres spoke about the Israel-Hamas war, and he devoted a mere 30 seconds to the condemnation of Hamas’s horrific torture, murder and kidnapping of innocent Israeli civilians. After he established his obligatory, yet non-heartfelt, condemnation, he spent the rest of his speech condemning Israel.

Anyone who responds to the atrocious terror attack that Hamas committed on October 7th with I’m sorry but… needs to reassess their moral compass.

Mr. Guterres continued to detail a list of Palestinian hardships, explaining how the civilians are suffering. What he failed to mention is that the biggest oppressors of the Palestinian people are their supposed leaders, the terrorist organization Hamas. A leadership who blocks their citizens from leaving a war zone, a leadership who steals humanitarian aid from the hands of women and children, a leadership who hides behind women and children, a leadership who bombs their own hospitals.

This unbalanced focus however is not new. In fact, the UN has a dark history of anti-Israel bias.

Between 2015 and 2022 the UN General Assembly adopted 140 resolutions against Israel and only 68 against all other countries combined.

In every UN Human Rights council session there is a standing agenda, item 7, specifically targeted towards Israel. The item according to the UNHRC is defined as covering “human rights violations and implications of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.” No other country in the world has such an item, not North Korea, not Iran, not Russia, not Syria, not Hamas.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), funded almost completely by foreign governments, is responsible for education and social services for Palestinians. A report released by two independent research and monitoring groups concluded that UNRWA employs teachers who regularly call for the murder of Jews, glorify terrorism, encourage martyrdom and demonize Israelis.

Given the history of the UN, the secretary-general’s position is not surprising, yet it fails to address the long history of terror and indoctrination that Hamas has systematically employed in Gaza. It erases Hamas’s years of planning for their genocidal agenda of killing all Israelis and wiping the Jewish state off of the map. An agenda that is laid out clearly in their founding charter, an agenda that they have acted on repeatedly, and an agenda that the UN has helped allow and facilitate. Mr. Antonio Guterres, and the entire UN’s biased focus on Israel and their failure to condemn Hamas terrorism makes them complicit in the suffering of both innocent Palestinians and Israelis alike.
